EXPOSED: THE BRUTAL REALITY OF CHINA’S DOG MEAT TRADE
February 23rd, 2008 by admin
Cooked dog paws at a Chinese restaurant. A French association of animal lovers launched an online petition aimed at encouraging China to ban the killing of dogs for food.

One Voice said the practice of preparing canines for the pot often involves slow and brutal methods in which the animal is beaten to death, boiled alive or hung up to bleed while still breathing.
“This trade is widespread in China, even in large cities, although in Beijing, the authorities are trying to push it outside the city ahead of the Olympics” said Muriel Arnal, president and founder of One Voice.
The association said it had researched the practice for six months and then sent a team out across China for more than three weeks with the help of Chinese associates, filming and photographing dogs being cruelly put to death.
Several years ago, the backstreet butchers’ targets of choice were Saint Bernard’s, but now the favourite dogs for slaughter are German shepherds, it said.
Stolen pets, some of them still bearing collars, were also being killed.
One Voice said its online petition, launched on websites in France and Britain, aimed at pushing China to pass laws banning the killing of dogs, in time for the August Olympics.
Creating a law offering some protection to animals would be widely welcomed by the international community and help consolidate China’s position among leading nations.

It shouldn’t be illegal to eat dogs, the way they are put down is the issue here.

“EXPOSED: THE BRUTAL REALITY OF CHINA’S DOG MEAT TRADE” - a little over the top perhaps? You’re killing animals, it would be hard to be anything but brutal.
If you read about current methods for slaughtering cows and chickens, you wont find them any more humane than what was listed above.
But hey, dogs are cute and noble so lets continue to portray Asians as savages instead of focusing on the practices in our own countries.
I don’t care what your opinion on animal treatment is, just stop being so reactionist and think about what is going on.

Hazel, have you seen any of the information that’s on the internet? just google China dog meat trade, or Phillipine dog meat trade or just google Dog Meat trade and be prepared to be shocked. …Dogs are inherently emotional and friendly to humanity … the slaughter of a dog for food is excessively cruel. And justifying one form of slaughter for the does not get us anywhere.
it’s the conditions that these dogs are housed, carted and killed that is bringing me to my knees.
As a dog lover and owner myself, it makes no difference to me if a dog is being mistreated in Winnipeg or half a world away. Abuse and torture is abuse and torture.
The Swiss are up in arms because China is importing Saint Bernard dogs as fast as they can, for farming and slaughter for human consumption. Although there is no doubt in my mind, that abuse and suffering does occur in the mainstream factory farming methods we use in the civilized world, that does not mean that the dog meat trade should be excused. As the saying goes “Two wrongs, don’t make a right”.
